THE SIGNIFICANCE OF EDUCATION
I figured I'd take a moment to talk about why exactly I think the Japanese education system is worthy of study.
For one, it holds striking differences to our own system in North America. Conversely, it also holds some large similarities (career-orientated, test-based). Recognizing that differences in the raising of a population will have drastic effects on the end state of said population, is the first step to truly understanding a given country, and what makes it tick. In other words, I believe that Japan's unquestionably unique culture stems, in large part, from the way in which Japanese students are raised: the values they are taught at home, and even more so - in the classroom. This blog will be a nice round stepping stone in the long journey across water that is the exploration of Japan.
